INTERCEP invites students to media engagement on GBV

On 24th and 25th September, 2024, as part of our ongoing efforts to curb the menace of the GBV, INTERCEP invited 10 secondary school students who were earlier trained on the GBV in June, to a radio engagement at Jay FM, Jos.

The purpose of this engagement was to share their understanding of the threats posed by the GBV. Some of the questions they responded to revolve around the areas of the identification, management, and reporting of GBV cases. They emphasised the if-you-see-something-say-something mantra, and called on parents, especially mothers to relate well and create an atmosphere of engagement between themselves and their children. “Get closer to your girls, because as a mother, you understand your daughter more than her father understands her. Parents should train their boys to break free from harmful stereotypes that perpetuate violence.  One of such harmful beliefs is that violence is a norm for boys.”

The students also called on the society to seek opportunities to listen to [victim] stories and look for ways to get a lasting solution, not just a peripheral approach to it.

This project was carried out by INTERCEP in partnership with the Nigerian Women Trust Fund (NWTF).
