The violent Herder/Farmer Clashes in Benue State, North Central Nigeria resulted in wanton destruction of lives and properties. The Benue State government had to intervene to stop the carnage by enacting the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law 2017. The Herders complained that they cannot comply with the law because they don’t understand the language (English). Consequently, with the support of Peace Direct a UK based organization, INTERCEP translated the Law from English to Hausa language to enable the Herders read and understand the provisions of the law for the purpose of compliance so as to deescalate the conflict which assumed ethno-religious dimension. The translated law was publicly presented to stakeholders. A community Dialogue Forum Platform was also established for constant community engagements for sustainable peace.
